We are Billi. We design and manufacture filtered water systems that dispense instant boiling, chilled and sparkling water for homes and workplaces across Australia and, increasingly, the world.
Billi was founded in Melbourne in 1989, launching the world’s first underbench boiling filtered water system the following year. It was a single, slim unit that sat hidden beneath the benchtop and delivered instant, filtered hot water through a single neat tap. That was the start of the category. Everything that has followed, from the high-end tap designs to the addition of chilled and sparkling water, is something Billi has either introduced or helped define.
We pioneered underbench filtered water, and we’ve spent the 35 years since refining what we started. Three of the most important breakthroughs have been: shrinking the under-bench footprint, improving energy efficiency, and designing tapware that people are happy to put on display.
Billi is Australian-owned, Australian-run, and headquartered in Melbourne. Our systems are designed and manufactured locally, in a plant we’re currently expanding to support international demand. Keeping engineering and production under one roof gives us close control over quality, faster development cycles, and a service network that understands Australian conditions, whether that’s the hard water in regional South Australia, the humid Brisbane summers, or the long, cold Hobart mornings.
For specifiers and procurement teams, that also means a supply chain you can trace, a head office you can ring, and a warranty backed by people on the same continent. The decisions about how a Billi system is engineered, finished and supported are made here, by the people who live with the product at home.
A Billi system does most of its work where you can’t see it. That’s the point. We’ve spent decades refining components like the boiler, chiller, and filters, so the only thing on the benchtop is a tap that pours exactly what you ask for. Some of the engineering choices we’re proud of:
2026 marks the 20th anniversary of our flagship underbench unit, the Quadra, a testament to Billi’s technological leadership.
Good industrial design is the part of Billi that most people see first. In 2016, we became the first manufacturer in the category to extend the range into matte and metallic finishes, a look that has since become standard across premium kitchens. Our Multifunction Mixer Tap won a Good Design Award in 2024 for industrial design.
Finishes now run from brushed chrome through to brass, bronze, gunmetal, matte black and stainless. Profiles are slim. Levers feel the way they should feel. We sweat the millimetres, because the tap is the part you live with. The more meaningful test, though, is the one that happens every day: architects, designers, and homeowners specify Billi because they love the look of our timeless design. The XL tap has been a market leader for almost 15 years.
A filtered water system quietly replaces a long list of things the planet would rather not deal with: single-use plastic bottles, kettles boiled for a single cup, fridges left running to chill a jug that almost no one finishes. A Billi takes care of all of them at once. We’ve built sustainability into the engineering, and we’ve been doing it for a long time.
In 2014, we earned our first Gold Global GreenTag certification. Our flagship unit, the Quadra has received an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). In 2022, our Melbourne plant switched to R290, a natural refrigerant with a fraction of the global warming impact of alternatives. In 2019, we joined the International WELL Building Institute as a Cornerstone member, the highest level of commitment to building environments that are good for the people inside them.
The everyday version of all this is simpler: efficient boilers, intelligent standby. and a service program designed around keeping a unit running well for as long as possible. Our durable, repairable designs reduce replacement frequency, ensuring a lower total footprint across the full product lifecycle.
Drinking more water is one of those things nobody argues with, and not many people actually do well. The honest reason isn’t usually willpower. It’s friction. The tap water smells and tastes funny. The jug in the fridge needs refilling. The kettle takes time to boil. The bottle of sparkling water is heavy and at the bottom of the pantry. Remove the friction, and people drink more water. It’s the most useful thing a Billi system does, and the easiest to verify: ask any home or office that has one installed.
