With all our modern-day appliances and conveniences, kitchen organisation is a must, especially nowadays with many living in apartments where kitchens are often limited on space. Below are our three tips for organising drinking items in your kitchen so you can enjoy refreshing beverages conveniently, without cluttering up your kitchen space.

Billi has been at the forefront of the instant filtered boiling and chilled water systems industry for over 30 years. All our water systems come with an assurance of quality, innovation and sustainability and are proudly Australian-designed & made to strict quality standards in our state-of-the-art facilities in Melbourne. Here are our tips on how to organise your kitchen when it comes to drinking items

3 Tips For Organising Drinking Items In Your Kitchen

Here are our top recommendations on how to organise kitchen drinking items:

1. Declutter

Often we end up with way more cups & glasses than we need. Go through the cupboards and get rid of any mismatched items or extra sets that don’t get enough use to justify the space they’re taking up. For the items you no longer require, a planet-friendly option is to drop them off at your local thrift shop.

2. Storage

For the items you do decide to keep, there are lots of innovative ways to utilise your storage space and keep things organised & easy to get to. Hang cups from hooks or add shelf inserts or baskets to keep items tidy and together.

3. Billi Tap

Have a Billi tap installed in the kitchen, walk-in pantry or scullery. For the avid kitchen organiser, Billi water filtration systems are the perfect choice for maximising your storage space and keeping your kitchen tidy. Our systems are underbench systems so they don’t take up benchtop space.

With our instant hot, sparkling still, chilled and still filtered water systems you don’t need a kettle on your bench top anymore, you no longer have a bulky manual carbonated water machine taking up cupboard space and with chilled water on tap, gone are the bottles of water taking up space in your fridge.

Our systems have also been designed with modern living in mind and have one of the smallest footprints on the market so they don’t take up lots of valuable cupboard space too.

There are many different types of water filters on the market, all with their features and benefits. It can be hard to know what type of water filtration system will be best for you so below is info on what factors to consider when it comes to the different types of water filtration solutions.

For over 30 years Billi has been at the forefront of the instant filtered boiling and chilled water systems industry. Our products are celebrated for their combination of functionality, performance and contemporary aesthetics. All our systems are proudly Australian-made and designed in our state-of-the-art facilities in Melbourne and are used here in Australia and around the world. Here is what to consider when choosing what type of water filtration system to go with for your home:

What To Consider When Looking At Different Types Of Filtration Systems

There is quite a variety when it comes to the different types of filtration systems – from large whole house filtration systems to compact, specialised systems designed to filter drinking water only. And with these systems, there are some significant differences when it comes to budget, space, access to electricity & water, support and maintenance costs.

If you’re considering types of water filtration that filter your whole house’s water supply, bear in mind that installation may require your plumbing to be reconfigured to accommodate the complex parts of the system. The benefit of having whole house water filtration systems is that they filter the water for your entire home’s plumbing and appliance. However, they generally only have a 30 to 50-micron filter as they need to be able to still allow normal flow of water through. This means the filters may not filter out everything you want to be removed from your water. If you’re looking for high-quality drinking water, then an under bench system may be the way to go.

Under Bench Water Filtration Systems

Under bench systems are specialised filtration systems designed specifically to filter drinking water only. With these systems it is possible to have up to a 0.2-micron filter which provides the highest level of filtration for drinking water – however, they don’t protect your entire home’s plumbing and appliances. Often, this is why people choose to have two types of water filtration – whole house filtration to protect their plumbing & appliances along with filtration specifically for their drinking water.

Most types of water filtration will also require ongoing filter replacement to maintain the quality of the filtered water and to ensure the system operates effectively over time. Whole house water filter systems have the biggest cartridges because they need to treat a larger volume of water daily without reducing the flow rate and may also require a professional to replace them.

Under bench systems have a smaller filter so upfront or ongoing costs may be more affordable, however, they may need to be replaced more frequently (we recommend replacing our filters every 12 months). Under bench filters can usually be installed by yourself. We have videos that show you how to replace the filters for our systems but we can also arrange a technician to change filters for you if preferred.

Ensure filter cartridges are easily available and also check what water filter cartridge types are compatible too. Genuine replacement Billi filters are available on our website or from your local approved supplier.

Water Filter Types

We have a range of water filter cartridge types available for our systems so you can choose the filtration level that best suits your needs. Our 0.2 Micron filter reduces the following from your water:

Our 5-micron filter provides a more standard option to improve drinking water and reduces the following:

Other Benefits and Considerations

Another benefit of having an under bench system is that, like the systems in our range you have the convenience of instant boiling, chilled, still and sparkling water on tap. This means fewer kitchen appliances are required (no more kettle or manual sparkling water machines!), you no longer have bottles of chilled water taking up space in the fridge and they’re great for those who like to entertain. We also have systems in our range that feature our unique Heat Exchange Technology which enables them to achieve substantial energy savings making them energy efficient.

When it comes to installation, under bench systems are installed in your kitchen cabinet so they don’t take up bench space and they’re tucked away out of sight (our systems have one of the smallest footprints on the market so they don’t take up a lot of cabinet space either). We have an extensive range of models that do not require cupboard ventilation cutouts or grilles so they are quick, easy and cost-effective to install too.

As we step into Plastic Free July, it’s crucial to understand the impact of plastic pollution. This month is dedicated to reducing our environmental footprint, and while we at Billi actively contribute to sustainable practices year-round, we wanted to highlight the importance of this month and how you can help combat this issue in your home and work lives.

Plastic Pollution Facts

Plastic is everywhere. It’s in our devices, our cars, and especially in the packaging that surrounds our daily essentials. Each year, an astonishing amount of plastic is produced globally, with studies showing that over 8 million tonnes end up in our oceans annually, harming marine life and ecosystems. Tiny plastic fragments, known as microplastics, have infiltrated ecosystems from the tallest mountains to the deepest ocean trenches and are even entering our food chain through seafood and drinking water.

What is Plastic Free July?

Plastic Free July is a global movement that encourages millions to part ways with single-use plastics to reduce the resulting waste of their consumption. Participation can be simply choosing alternatives like reusable bags, bottles, and containers instead of single-use plastics or long-term solutions like overhauling your workplace’s recycling practices, changing suppliers to a Global GreenTag-certified business, or replacing equipment and practices that are taxing on the environment.

In facilities where health and safety are essential, such as hospitals, aged care, corporate offices, and public buildings, the way drinking water is delivered can be as important as the water itself. Improperly designed or poorly maintained systems can quietly harbour conditions suitable for the growth of Legionella bacteria. This pathogen thrives in warm, stagnant environments and has been linked to serious outbreaks, including recent cases in Victoria (ABC News) and New South Wales (NSW Health).

Billi have spent more than 30 years leading the way in instant filtered water innovation. Manufactured in Melbourne, our underbench systems offer boiling, chilled, sparkling, and still filtered water, but what sets us apart is our holistic approach to water safety. Through advanced water-cooled technology, certified manufacturing, and in-use hygiene protocols, Billi systems are built to help reduce the risk of Legionella from day one.

Learn how our design and process decisions offer health-first water delivery that supports compliance, efficiency, and peace of mind for high-responsibility environments.

Growing concern for commercial and care-based settings

In August 2024, an outbreak in Victoria saw over 80 confirmed cases and four fatalities (ABC News). By March 2025, New South Wales recorded 12 more infections, including one death (NSW Health). These events have reinforced the risks posed by seemingly low-contact building systems like water coolers and boiling water units.

Workplaces, hospitals, aged care facilities and schools, all of which serve vulnerable populations, must approach drinking water systems as potential sources of harm unless designed and maintained to reduce waterborne pathogens.

Hygiene begins before installation with factory-level protection

All Billi units are manufactured in Melbourne, where strict hygiene protocols form part of the assembly and testing process. Every system is flushed with UVC-treated water and then purged with nitrogen gas, drying the interior completely and sanitising it prior to shipment. This uncommon step means no residual moisture remains in the system, significantly lowering the chance of microbial growth before installation.

This attention to detail at the manufacturing stage reflects our understanding that prevention starts with production, not just maintenance.

Maintenance matters: BilliCare service and filter plans

Even with world-class design, ongoing care is essential to safeguard against Legionella. Our BilliCare Gold and Silver Service Plans provide routine servicing and genuine Billi filter replacements, carried out by accredited technicians. Filters include a digital lockout feature that prevents reused or unauthorised components, preserving the integrity of the system and protecting water quality.

For high-risk environments like hospitals and aged care centres, the combination of smart servicing and engineered hygiene features offers unmatched peace of mind. Discover the additional Features & Benefits of Billi systems.

Choose a system built with safety at its core

Protecting your site from Legionella isn’t about fixing problems after they occur. It’s about choosing a system that’s designed to prevent them. Billi’s approach to water safety is across every phase, from design and manufacturing to installation and daily operation.

Unlike many systems that address hygiene through add-ons or workarounds, Billi’s water-cooled units and servicing plans form an integrated defence against microbial risk. And because we control our manufacturing here in Australia, we’re able to maintain quality, compliance, and responsiveness in ways that imported systems simply can’t match.

Whether you’re designing a new facility or upgrading an existing one, now is the time to think beyond convenience, and toward long-term responsibility.

Contact the experts at Billi for specification support or system guidance.

Or View our Range of water-cooled, underbench systems suitable for high-risk environments.

Recent outbreaks of Legionella in Victoria (ABC News) and New South Wales (NSW Health) have brought this disease back into focus. In August 2024, Victoria recorded more than 80 confirmed cases of Legionnaires’ disease, resulting in four deaths. Just months later, a separate outbreak occurred in the Sydney CBD resulting in 12 cases and one death. These incidents are a reminder that how we manage our water systems matters.

Furthermore, the water systems in hospitals, aged care facilities, or commercial buildings can have more consequences if exposed to Legionella. The question is no longer if Legionella is a risk, it’s how we’re actively preventing it. This is where Billi stands apart from other instant water filtration systems.

Hidden Risks in Conventional Water Systems

It’s easy to assume that a filtered system automatically ensures safety. But the reality is, not all technologies are created equal, especially when it comes to bacterial threats like Legionella. The issue isn’t only about filtration, it’s about how the system is designed to manage heat, flow, and hygiene.

Air-cooled water systems, commonly found in older or lower-spec systems, often sit enclosed in cabinetry, relying on internal fans to manage temperature. These designs can allow heat to build up inside the cupboard, creating warm, stagnant environments which is ideal for bacterial growth. When water doesn’t move, Legionella can thrive.

Billi systems are engineered to disrupt these conditions, by design.

Prevention Begins with Flow and Temperature Control

A key feature of our Legionella defence strategy is water-cooled technology. Unlike air-cooled units that rely on airflow and cabinetry cut-outs, Billi systems maintain constant water movement (under normal operating conditions). This circulation helps eliminate stagnation, one of the most critical risk factors for bacterial development.

Billi also integrates advanced heat exchange systems, reclaiming and repurposing waste heat rather than venting it into the cupboard. This keeps internal environments cool and dry, removing another key condition that Legionella and waterborne pathogens needs to grow.

And because Billi systems don’t require ventilation cut-outs or grilles, they’re easier to install and less disruptive to cabinetry, a significant plus for architects and builders.

Every part of the system is intentionally designed to prevent risk, not manage it after the fact. Learn more about all the Features & Benefits of Billi systems.

Built-In Protection Before and After Installation

Billi doesn’t leave hygiene to chance. Before any unit leaves our Melbourne manufacturing facility, it’s rigorously tested with UVC-treated water and nitrogen-flushed to remove any residual moisture, ensuring the system arrives dry, sterile, and ready for installation.

For critical settings, such as hospitals, aged care, or schools, Billi systems can be configured to automatically flush at regular intervals. This programmable feature ensures water moves through the system even during off-peak hours, minimising the risk of stagnation.

Ongoing Compliance with BilliCare Service Plans

Even the most robust systems benefit from regular maintenance. That’s why Billi offers a choice of service options designed to meet different site needs and operational budgets.

All BilliCare plans include genuine Billi parts, scheduled servicing, and access to our nationwide network of trained technicians. This is for convenience, ensuring your unit stays compliant, safe, and the system performs as it should.

Choose a System Designed to Protect from the Inside Out

Whether you’re managing an aged care facility, specifying for a new health precinct, upgrading office amenities, or a residential customer, one thing is clear: safe water starts with smart system design.

With over 30 years of expertise, every Billi system is engineered to deliver on performance, hygiene, and compliance, from the factory floor in Melbourne to the point of dispense in your building.
