Mitigating Legionella Contamination at 55 St Georges Terrace

55 St Georges Terrace stands as a hub of commercial activity in Perth Australia, accommodating a diverse range of businesses and offices. The focus on maintaining a safe and healthy environment for occupants is paramount, making routine water testing a standard practice to ensure water quality and safety.

Challenge

During routine water testing, a Legionella-positive result surfaced from a single unit on level 6 of the building. Legionella, a bacterium known to cause severe respiratory infections, raised concerns about the potential health risks for occupants.

A thorough investigation was immediately initiated to identify the source of Legionella contamination. The findings indicated that the contamination originated from the incoming water source, signifying a broader concern that required urgent attention to prevent further spread throughout the building.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, building management and relevant stakeholders acknowledged the critical need for immediate action. Legionella, when left unaddressed, poses a significant health risk, particularly in large commercial structures like 55 St Georges Terrace.

Solution

In response to the Legionella-positive result, Billi acted decisively by promptly removing the affected unit from the site. This crucial step aimed at thorough disinfection, ensuring the elimination of any lingering Legionella bacteria within the unit and preventing potential transmission to other parts of the building.

Billi presented an innovative proposal: the installation of Luxgarde™ UVC systems. This comprehensive approach involved placing a Luxgarde™ unit at each of the 21 specifically located units within the building. Luxgarde™ UVC systems, certified for its effectiveness in water purification, offered a proactive solution to guarantee water safety.
