Water is so beneficial for our health in many ways, as every cell in the human body relies on water to function properly. However, the reality is that many of us struggle to drink enough water. Infused water is a great way to ensure you stay hydrated, as it tastes great without all the calories and nasties added.
Another benefit of infused water is the ingredients you add. Fruits such as berries, lemon & lime, cucumber and herbs such as mint or basil have their own health & wellbeing benefits. Lemons have been shown to regulate our pH levels and can also improve our skin. Water infused with mint is great for relaxation (and can be a great breath freshener too).
Other benefits of infused water (depending on what ingredients you add) can include appetite control, boosting your immune system, relieving headaches, Improving digestion & congestion, heartburn prevention, blood sugar regulation and weight management.
Here are our three favourite water infusion recipes that are healthy and taste great so you can enjoy the benefits of infused water:
Place a small handful of mint leaves in a glass. Add some cubed, seedless watermelon (fill about ? of the glass). Add approximately 1 tablespoon of your sweetener of choice (e.g. simple syrup) then use a muddler to crush the ingredients. Fill the glass with crushed ice, add a tablespoon of lime then top up with sparkling water.
Put one cup of pear juice, a teaspoon of lime juice, ¾ cup of honey, ¼ cup of sugar (or your favourite sweetener), a sprig of fresh rosemary, a small knob of peeled and finely cut ginger and grated fresh nutmeg in a saucepan. Bring to the boil then allow to simmer for 5 minutes until the sugar is fully dissolved. Remove from heat, then once cooled strain the syrup into a small jug. Place some ice cubes in a glass then add approximately 3 tablespoons of the syrup, then top up with sparkling water. Delicious!
Blend around 5-8 ripe strawberries with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice with a hand blender. Place some ice cubes in a glass, then pour the blended mixture into the glass. Top up with sparkling water and enjoy!
