What To Add To Water For Flavour

According to the Institute of Medicine, the recommended amount of water per day for a healthy adult is approximately 9–13 cups. This does vary depending on a few different factors (i.e. gender, the weather, how active you are and your health) but overall this is a good guide as to how much we should be aiming for.

Many of us however find it difficult to drink this amount of water in a day. But, the good news is that there are ways to make drinking water easier, and more enticing. One of these is adding flavour to your water. Below are our recommendations on what to add to water for flavour along with what to add to water for hydration.

Billi has been at the forefront of the instant filtered boiling and chilled water systems industry for over 30 years. All our water filtration systems come with an assurance of quality, innovation & sustainability and are proudly Australian-designed & made to strict quality standards in our state-of-the-art facilities in Melbourne.

To help increase your daily water intake and maintain your health & wellbeing, here is what to add to water to make it taste better if you’re looking for healthy, low-sugar options as well as what to add to water for hydration

What To Add To Water For Flavor

Adding flavour to water is a great way to entice you to drink more water. But you want to be mindful of what you’re adding in. Adding flavour with lots of sugar or unhealthy unnatural ingredients could counteract the benefits of the water you’re drinking. But firstly, let’s talk about the quality of the water you’re drinking as not all water is equal.

Drinking filtered water will not only improve the taste & odour but will also remove things like chlorine, parasitic cysts such as cryptosporidium & giardia. Once you know you’ve got great-tasting, high-quality water – you can now mix things up and start introducing flavour.

Our water filtration systems use premium filters that filter all these things mentioned above, out of your water – giving you the best quality drinking water. And, what’s even better is that you can have instant boiling, chilled, still and sparkling water on tap. This makes your filtered drinking water much more accessible and you can have fun trying out different flavour variations with boiling water, sparkling water, chilled, or whatever your preference is that day!

Recommended Flavourful Additions To Water

Here are our recommendations on what to add to water to make it taste better whilst ensuring what you’re putting into your body is just the good stuff:

  • Fruit is all natural and packed full of nutrients that help our bodies thrive. Adding berries, citrus fruit or melons to your water not only tastes great so you’re inclined to drink more water but you’re getting the added health benefits from the fruit too. Our favourites include lemon, lime, orange, pineapple, berries and melon. You could also try adding some veggies too such as cucumber, celery or tomato. We also highly recommend creating ‘virgin fruit cocktails’ with sparkling water – great for entertaining, and delicious!
  • Ginger has many health benefits and is also great combined with lemon and honey (which also have fantastic health benefits). We recommend using our instant boiling water with this one. You could also add a bit of apple cider vinegar which is known to be great for gut health.
  • Herbs can be super flavoursome so are a great choice when it comes to what to add to water to make it taste better. Try mint (great on its own in boiling water), thyme or basil. Leaving your water overnight will help to infuse your water with all that flavour goodness.
  • Tea is not only great for taste variation but many find sipping away on herbal tea is an effective way to slow down, destress and relax. And teas aren’t just for hot drinks either – once you’ve brewed your tea, let it cool then add a bit of ice for a refreshing iced tea. Lovely!

What To Add To Water For Hydration

When your body loses more water than you’re taking in, this can cause dehydration. If you’re dehydrated or need to encourage more effective hydration, electrolytes (minerals and salts including potassium, sodium, and calcium) are what to add to water for hydration.

Recommended Hydration Additives To Water

When it comes to electrolytes, what to add to water for hydration can include:

  • Salt (contains sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium). Go for the less processed salts such as sea salt or Himalayan rock salt.
  • Coconut water (contains high amounts of potassium, magnesium, and sodium). Coconut water can also help to balance acidic pH levels in the body too.
  • Ginger (contains calcium and magnesium). Ginger is also great for boosting your immune system and gut health too.
  • Watermelon (contains magnesium, potassium and trace amounts of calcium and phosphorus). Watermelon also contains L-citrulline which can increase your oxygen intake, boosting athletic performance.
